An identical cell equipped with BSI’s technology did not go to thermal runaway even after 120 minutes at 175 °C.

SOME OF OUR CASE STUDIES

Chemical Reactivity: Calorimetry Testing of Epichlorohydrin (Epi.)

Belmont Scientific preformed a chemical reactivity evaluation with the chemical intermediate Epichlorohydrin when mixed with water.

Batteries: ARC Test for Li-ion Cells

Belmont Scientific has developed a methodology for the testing of both pouch and cylindrical Lithium-ion cells.

Batteries: Oven Test for Pouch Cell

Belmont Scientific has developed a proprietary method to measure the exothermic onset, cell leak, and separator shut down temperatures.

May 2021: Belmont Scientific preformed a safety demonstration showing the effectiveness of their battery safety technology using the UL9540A testing methodology. An 18650 cell went to violent thermal runaway when heated to 250 degrees Celsius. Belmont Scientific's Technology prevented an identical cell from going to thermal runaway even after 40 minutes at 250 degrees Celsius. This demonstrates that cells treated with BSI's Tech. will pass the UL9540A test.

February 2021: Belmont Scientific developed an Oven test to determine cell leak, separator shutdown, and ignition temperature of a Li-ion pouch cell. This method also provides an exothermic onset temperature, although it is often higher than the onset temperature determined by Accelerating Rate Calorimeter (ARC®).

Oct 2020: Belmont Scientific modified an Accelerating Rate Calorimeter (ARC®) to accommodate larger cells which could not fit in the existing calorimeter. BSI can now test Li-ion cells having a width/diameter of 3 inches, a thickness of 0.5 inches, and a height of 5 inches using the upgraded calorimeter.

May 2020: Belmont scientific developed a method to measure the specific heat capacity of Lithium-ion cells of different shape and sizes using an Accelerating Rate Calorimeter (ARC®).
